The Falcons Are Heading To The Finals

The Daytona State College Falcons (16-2) defeated the Georgia Military College Bulldogs (12-5) on Friday afternoon in the Southeast District Semi-Final. The Falcons came out ready to play and pumped in 7 goals on the Bulldogs. This win will take the Falcons into the Southeast District Final facing the Eastern Florida State College Titans. This will be the 4th time these two teams have met this season, only this time the winner will go onto the NJCAA National Tournament held in Tyler, Texas.

The Region 8 Champion Falcons who are still ranked 8th in the NJCAA had only one thing in mind when they stepped onto the field today and that was to leave with a victory. "This team deserves every bit of what they have accomplished this season," says head coach Bart Sasnett.

The Falcons found the back of the net 7 times in the matchup with every goal coming from a different player. Sophomore Quam Salami got on the board first in the 25th minute of the match with an assist from freshman Ryan Goldsmith. Shortly after, a penalty kick was awarded to the Falcons and freshman Ryan Sandidge stepped up and placed it right into the back of the net. That wasn't enough for the Falcons though. Sophomore Tyler Hall won a ball and chipped it over the head of the Bulldog keeper making the score now 3-0 with 3 minutes left in the 1st half. With 1 minute left in the 1st half, freshman Joe O'Sullivan put in his 10th goal of the season, making the score 4-0 going into halftime.

After another inspiring speech from Coach Sasnett at halftime, the Falcons came out wanting more. Sophomore Jonas Bukh won a goal kick from the Bulldog keeper and took an immediate shot on goal. With the score now at 5-0, the Falcons unloaded the bench. Freshman Lehy Felix got on the board next with an assist from freshman and local Kade Sweeney. Felix didn't stop there though. With time running down, Felix slotted a ball to freshman Kevoy Bailey who then rocketed a shot past the keeper, making the score now 7-0.

"I am extremely happy with the way the team performed tonight," says Sasnett. "It's always good to be able to get your entire team into the match."

The Falcons will host the Eastern Florida State College Titans in the Southeast District Final tomorrow at 2 PM at Embry-Riddle turf field.
