The Daytona State College men's basketball team defeated St. Petersburg College 75-71 on Sophomore night to improve to 27-2 and 13-2 in the Citrus Conference. Daytona is now tied with Eastern Florida for first place in the Conference as a result of the win combined with Florida Southwestern's loss to Indian River on Saturday. Daytona plays at Florida Southwestern on Monday night.
Daytona built a 28-11 lead early in the first half against St. Pete, and held on as they committed an uncharacteristic 21 turnovers in the game to allow St. Pete to mount a comeback.
Victor Panov finished with 19 points and 6 rebounds to lead the way for Daytona State. Kylin Green finished with 10 points, 10 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Breylin Garcia returned to action and finished with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Judd Coan added 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals.
