Men’s Basketball Earns Trip to FCSAA Region VIII Championship Tournament

Niceville, Florida – The 2022-23 season will continue today for the Daytona State men’s basketball team. The Falcons earned the #2 overall seed in the eight team FCSAA Tournament and square off today against conference foe Eastern Florida State College which earned the #7 overall seed (21-9 overall/11-4 conference) at 1pm CST (2pm EST). Daytona State finished the regular season (27-3 overall/14-1 conference) and was the outright Central Conference champion. The winner of this game will move on to play the winner of the the #3 seed Tallahassee and #6 seed Florida Southwestern tomorrow.

Head coach Joey Cantens will be making his first ever post-season appearance as a head coach coming off last year’s 11-19 campaign in his first season with the Falcons. This +16 regular season win turnaround speaks to the work that Coach Cantens, his staff, and the Falcons have put in over the past 12 months to position themselves as one of the top teams in Region VIII. For their work Coach Cantens earned the Central Conference Coach of the Year.

The Falcons are led by Central Conference Player of the Year Jacob Crews, along with first team all-conference selections Jose Grullon-German, Nic McClain and Ky Stattmann; and second team all-conference selections Breylin Garcia and Kezza Giffa.
