--New Smyrna Beach, FL

The Falcon Baseball team went on the road Saturday morning for a double header south of town. This double header was different than other double headers earlier in the season because on this day everybody won. The Miracle League of Volusia County faced off against the Falcons for two three-inning games at Fregolle Field at the New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex.

“Saturday was great for our players to have a chance to get in the community after the last four months of playing games,” Head Coach Tim Touma said. “We have a special group of young men in this program that impacted Volusia County in a positive way yesterday.”

The Miracle League of Volusia County is a non-profit 501c3 corporation that gives those with special needs an opportunity to play America’s favorite pastime. There are currently 275 Miracle League Organizations across the county that serves over 200,000 children and young adults with disabilities. Fregolle Field is a rubberized non-latex flat surfaced field that hosts as many as 50 kids who play every Saturday at 9am and 10am during our Spring and Fall seasons. They are always looking to expand their sights for more players, buddies, and volunteers. You can find more informaiton on their website at http://www.miracleleaguevolusia.org/

Sophomore Sean McArdle said, “Seeing how excited the kids get about playing baseball knowing they wait all week for Saturday so they can play and we take that for granted every day.” McArdle, who has volunteered for Miracle League events in Orlando in the past, continued, “Also to give the parents a break where they can sit back and watch their kids have fun knowing they’re safe and doing something they love.”

Sophomore Logan McClure was asked what he will remember from the event this past Saturday and he said, “The interactions we had with the kids and the excitement that they showed throughout the whole day.”

Sophomore Kyle Abbott said, “I enjoyed spending time with kids who are not as fortunate as us and being able to do something so little as attend a baseball event and they be that happy.”

Victoria Kratochwill, who is on the Miracle League of Volusia County Board of Directors said, “The Falcon baseball team made our Miracle League athletes time an unforgettable one today. They brought baseballs for all the kids and took time to sign and take pictures after the game. Thank you to them for showing our super athletes a great time.”
