Falcons Looking To Grab Wild Card Spot in FCSAA State Baseball Tournament

The Daytona State College baseball squad (21-20, 12-12) is headed to Palatka, Florida, for a neutral site play-in game against Tallahassee Community College (27-23, 12-12) on Thursday, April 27, at 5:00 p.m. The game winner will advance to the FCSAA State Tournament in Lakeland, Florida, May 5-10.

Sophomore Gage Hutchinson, a Spruce Creek High School grad from Port Orange, Florida, will take the mound for the Falcons. Hutchinson has 14 starts for the year with a 6-2 record (4-2 in the conference) and a 5.70 ERA. Also notable in the Falcons' line-up for tonight is the return of sophomore infielder Tyler Barron who's been recovering from a broken arm since early March. Barron was hitting .254 before his injury.

The Falcons have previously made four postseason appearances in the FCSAA/NJCAA Division 8 tournament, most recently in the 2015 Wild Card play-in game against Hillsborough Community College. DSC fell 5-1 in that match-up.

They have not faced TCC in regular or postseason play since head coach Tim Touma's first season at DSC 16 years ago.

If Daytona State comes out victorious tonight, they will face the State College of Florida at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5, in the first round of the tournament.
