Women's Cross Country places top ten at FAU Invitational

The women's cross country team finished 9th at the FAU Invitational on Friday evening in Boca Raton.  Led by All American sophomore Shannon Jones (19th overall out of 178 runners, with a time of 18:58), the Falcons had two runners in the top 20 as sophomore Giovana Meade was only four seconds behind Jones with a 19:02, 20th place.  Meade, a 400 meter runner her senior year of high school has blossomed into a solid cross country runner.  "Gigi is really on a good trajectory in terms of getting to the next level.  She has completely transformed into a top junior college cross country runner." commented Coach Judy Wilson.  The Falcons had a gap after their top two due to heat issues that developed with two of their top five.  The third Falcon to cross the line was freshman Molly Burt who finished 99th running 22:00, and fourth was Lauren Schaudel who finished in 105 place with a time of 22:11.  Rounding out the Falcon top five was freshman Alison Boyle, finishing in 119th place in 23:03.  Boyle took two years off of running after high school and joined the Falcon team this fall.  Other Falcon runners included Alexis Mills (131st, 23:50), Kaitlyn Harding (142nd, 24:31) and two Falcons who stopped to help a teammate, Francesca Azzollini and Trinity Trett finished 166th and 167th.  "One of our runners was struggling tonight and two stopped to help.  Sometimes helping a teammate is more admirable than being concerned with your own performance." Wilson commented.
