October 22, 2013 – Lakewood Ranch, FL: The Daytona State College Women's Golf Team continued their impressive play this season by finishing 2nd in the 17-team field 36th Annual FIU/Pat Bradley Invitational at Lakewood Ranch Country Club in Lakewood Ranch, FL.

With a team score of 874 (293-287-294), the Lady Falcons finished 2nd, 1 shot behind tournament winner University of Missouri. Daytona State had a 4 stroke advantage heading into the final round and posted a solid 294, but Missouri posted a 2-under 286 to capture the title. Daytona had posted a season low 1-under 287 in the 2nd round and posted their lowest team scores of the season. Host FIU (876), Maryland (878) and Memphis (892) rounded out the top five.

The Falcons were led by sophomore So Young Hwang who finished 2nd out of 93 players with scores of 71-69-71 for an impressive 5-under 211 total just 1 shot behind tournament winner Coralia Arias from FIU. Freshman Tiffany Chan also had a strong showing with a 5th place finish and scores of 72-70-71 (213).

Other finishers for Daytona State include sophomore Mary Dawson who tied for 12th overall with a 54-hole total of 217 (72-70-75), sophomore Jessica Madsen who finished tied for 58th at 233 (78-78-77), and freshman Whitney Stevenson who finished in a tie for 73rd at 239 (81-78-80).

I was so impressed with how my team played in this event. This was a very strong field and they really stepped up their games this week and played so well. I know they were disappointed that they didn't win, as losing by 1 shot is always tough, but they should be proud of themselves for a job well done, Coach Laura Brown said. "They played their best of the season and posted some impressive scores. Combined they posted 6 under par rounds and the team posted an under par round in the 2nd round which hasn't happened in 3 years. Additionally, only two team scores in the 36 years of the event were lower than what these young ladies shot. They should be very proud of that especially since this event attracts some very strong teams."

The Lady Falcons return to competition November 4th and 5th at the Hatter Classic at Victoria Hills Country Club in Deland, FL.
