Lady Falcons Finish 2nd at Xavier Invitational

October 7, 2013 – Daytona Beach, FL: The Daytona State College Women's Golf Team continued their solid start to the season by finishing 2nd in the 18-team field Xavier Invitational at LPGA International Golf Club in Daytona Beach, FL.

With a team score of 901 (300-301-300), the Lady Falcons finished 2nd, 8 shots behind tournament winner Mercer University and in a tie with Morehead State University. Mercer won the event with a three-day total of 893. Host Xavier (914) and Stetson (918) rounded out the top five.

The Falcons were led by Tiffany Chan, a freshman from Hong Kong, who posted a 2nd place finish with scores of 73-72-69. Chan's final round 69 tied the low round of the tournament.

Other finishers for Daytona State include sophomore So Young Hwang tied for 13th overall with a 54-hole total of 227 (76-77-74), sophomore Mary Dawson who finished 18th at 229 (76-75-78), sophomore Jessica Madsen came in tied for 24th at 232 (76-77-79) and freshman Whitney Stevenson finished in a tie for 42nd at 239 (75-77-87). Jessica Madsen also had a hole in one during her first round on the 12th hole.

When asked how she felt about the teams play, Coach Laura Brown commented "I am very happy with the way the team finished. They played very solid and I thought it was a great showing for them. Tiffany played very solid and her 69 was very impressive. This finish should continue to provide them with the confidence they need to remain competitive in their upcoming events."

The Lady Falcons return to competition October 14th and 15th at the JU Classic at Marsh Landing Country Club in Jacksonville, FL.
