The Daytona State women's soccer team enters into their third game of the year tomorrow, Wednesday, April 28th against Region 8 opponent Polk State College. The Falcons opened their season Saturday, April 17th against the Eagles entering into halftime 2-1 in favor of Daytona. Elena Diaz (Freshman, Madrid, Spain) scored first for the Falcons on a ball played through the Polk line by Megan Sheehan (Sophomore, Cork, Ireland). Sheehan would score minutes later, gathering a blocked shot near the 18-yd box. Polk was able to score just before halftime, then three more times in the second half. This would be the same goals-against outcome four days later against Eastern Florida.

"Both Polk and Eastern were able to capitalize on some mistakes we made during the game, especially in the second half. For having played together two times this year, we're making strides each game. We continue to make better decisions and I'm proud of the group for how they've continued to deal with adversity this academic year," said coach Maggie Manville.

This past Saturday, the Falcons hosted the Ormond Beach Soccer Club to pay tribute to Ericka Dane, a member of both Daytona State's soccer team and OBSC throughout her high school years. Dane tragically passed away just over a month ago on March 24th, 2021. Dane was a beloved member of the local soccer community, playing for both OBSC and Seabreeze High School, and was a coach in training for an OBSC U6 rec team. 14 is painted on the Falcon Stadium field as a memorial to Ericka and her continued presence in the hearts of the Daytona State soccer programs.

The women's program will play their final two conference games this week, Wednesday, April 28th against Polk State and Friday, April 30th against Eastern Florida. Next week, the Falcons play their final regular-season game on the road against Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, NC, Saturday, May 8th.
