Daytona Beach, FL (dscfalcons.com): The Daytona State women's soccer team finished their regular-season games last Thursday against Eastern Florida and celebrating the team's 15 Sophomores and their contribution to the Daytona State program.

"The Eastern game was a well-fought contest. We had to weather a few storms early in the game but the girls gained a great deal of confidence moving into the 2nd half," said coach Brittany Jones.

In the first '45 minutes, EFSC tallied 7 shots on goal and earned 8 corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper, Makenna Gottschalk (Broomfield, CO) would end the game with 13 saves on the night to keep the Falcons within striking distance of Eastern, while also setting a program record for saves in a game.

At the '52 minute, EFSC was able to get on board, breaking down the Falcon defensive line. Eleven minutes later, Daytona would earn a penalty kick from an Eastern Florida hand ball in the box; Sophomore Tayla Duffy (Rushden, England) struck the pk for her 7th goal of the season. With 12 minutes left in regulation, Daytona would conceed the final goal of the night from a scramble in the box.

"Eastern took advantage of two mistakes we made and good teams finish their chances," said coach Jones. "I was proud of the courage our team showed and hope we get the chance to see them again."

The women's soccer team's next match will face ASA Miami in the Region 8 conference tournament semi-final on Thursday, Oct. 31st at the Falcons Soccer Stadium, kick-off at 7 pm. The contest will be the teams' 3rd meeting this year. In the regular season, both teams came away with a victory in overtime against each other.

"The conference tournament marks the beginning of a new season. We now have to find a way to be more clinical in games. We know ASSA will present a challenge to our group. However, the girls have been working hard to improve and I am excited to see how they perform Thursday," said Jones.
