LADY FALCONS RETURN TO COMPETITION AT FIRST COAST CLASSIC

February 16, 2021 – The Lady Falcons Women's Golf Team returned to action this week after an 11-month hiatus due to COVID-19 protocols and safety precautions.   The Falcons competed in the 12-team field at the First Coast Classic hosted by University of North Florida and Western Kentucky at Deerwood Country Club in Jacksonville, FL.   The Falcons finished in a tie for 7th posting team scores of 295-308-294 (897).  University of North Florida captured the team title by 16 strokes with team scores of 285-282-291 (858) over Troy University who had scores of 292-286-296 (874).  Sophomore Symone Henriques led the Falcons by placing 3rd in the event with scores of 71-75-67 (213).   Henriques 67 in the final round was the low round of the tournament and included 6 birdies in her final nine holes.   Henriques finished just three shots shy of tournament winner Carolina Andrade from Florida International University who shot scores of 71-68-71 (210).   Sophomore Manon Donche-Gay also had a solid showing with scores of 72-76-71 (219) and finished in a tie for 11th in the field of 72 players.

"It was great to be back to tournament play and to see my players on the course competing again", Head Coach Laura Brown stated.  "I know my players were very excited to start play again and this was a solid start for us.  Symone's 67 in the final round was very impressive especially considering the challenging windy conditions.  She really had it going on the back nine, making 6 birdies in a 9-hole stretch.  It was great to see her play so well."  The Falcons return to action later this week at the Great Waters Oconee Invitational hosted by Mercer University February 19-21 in Greensboro, GA.
