Falcons in the Community

While Monday may have been a Columbus Day holiday for some, the Daytona State College Men's Soccer Team was out giving back to the community. Zee Goalkeeper Academy was hosting a charity event to collect and donate funds for the HADC Foundation (Help a Diabetic Child) at the City Center Sports Complex in Port Orange. The charity event consisted of a Goalkeeper/Striker/Field player clinic in which the young players were coached by college coaches and players, club coaches and professional coaches. All proceeds went to the HADC.

"HADC purchases diabetes medical supplies, insulin and services for children and college students who have diabetes and are struggling to get these lifesaving supplies because their families are struggling financially. Six children in Volusia County alone died in 2018 for lack of insulin supplies."

The Men's Soccer team wanted to get out and support in any way that they could. With over 100 attendees at the event, the team got there at 8:30 AM to get to work. They were coaching lots of young players from the Port Orange Soccer Club, Southeast Volusia Soccer Club, Deltona United, Stetson FA and even players from out of the county soccer clubs.

"It was good to see the guys interacting with the young players," said assistant coach Travis Rovillo. "Those kids look up to them in so many ways and I am sure they thoroughly enjoyed being able to play with them."

The event was able to raise $2,200 to help diabetic children.

"We want our boys to understand how important it is to give back to the community that supports them," said head coach Bart Sasnett. "We are glad we were invited to attend an event that was able to help such a good cause. A big thank you to Rick Zee who included us in this charitable event."
