Falcons Prepare For Next Region 8 Match

Falcons Prepare For Next Region 8 Match

The Falcons are sitting on a record of 6-1-1 and currently ranked 9th in the NJCAA and United Soccer Coaches Association poll.

After suffering a 2-1 loss in overtime to Region 8 opponent Broward College on September 12th, the Falcons defeated Thomas University's JV squad on September 15th to regain momentum going into their matchup vs Region 8 rival Eastern Florida State College on Wednesday the 19th.

A week ago, the Falcons traveled to Broward College to face off in their first Region 8 game. Unfortunately, the Falcons came home with their first loss of the season. The Seahawks got on the scoreboard first in the 15th minute of the match. That didn't last long as the Falcons fought back to bring the match to a 1-1 tie with a goal from freshman Fabian Grant. That score held throughout regulation time. Taking the game into OT the Falcons pushed through the tough environment but fell short in the final second of the first overtime period. The Seahawks gained a free kick right outside of the box and ended up scoring off that opportunity.

"Broward is a very good and disciplined team," says head coach Bart Sasnett. "We had chances to put the game away but didn't. There are never any easy wins in this conference and this game will better prepare us for what is to come."

Fast-forwarding to September 15th when the Falcons faced the Thomas University JV Nighthawks, this time the game ended in favor of the Falcons, walking away with a hard earned 2-1 victory.

The Falcons outshot and out possessed the Nighthawks for the entirety of the match, hitting the post numerous times but only seemed to score twice. Goals were scored by freshman John Nalus and sophomore Scott Benoit.

"We need to be more clinical in our finishing going into Region play," says Sasnett. "We've got plenty of opportunities so it's time to start putting the ball in the back of the net."

The Falcons have spent the week preparing for Region 8 rival Eastern Florida State College. Eastern Florida has also lost to Broward College so it will be a tough game for both teams.

The game will be held at the Titan Soccer Complex on Wednesday the 19th at 6:00 P.M.
