Lady Falcons Start Mid-Florida Conference Play With a Win

The Lady Falcons of Daytona State opened their season with 6 straight wins to commence the 2014-2015 season.   Since their hot start, the Lady Falcons concluded preconference play with an overall 13-5 record in their first 18 contests, recording one of their best starts in the past five years.

The Falcons have secured 7 of their 13 wins against opponents ranked in the FCSAA Region’s Top Ten Poll.  These wins have necessitated their current 8thplace ranking in this week’s NJCAA Region 8 poll.

The Falcons quintessential win came mid-December against Tallahassee Community College, who currently holds a NJCAA national ranking of 14th.  The Falcons defeated Tallahassee 70-67.

Mid-Florida Conference play opened up on January 10th with the Falcons claiming a key win on the road against the Hawks of Hillsborough Community College.  Daytona State dominated Hillsborough winning 89-59.  Falcon, Brittany Chambers, led the field in scoring with 24 points.  Destiny Woodard led in rebounding, with 8 boards on the night.

Chambers currently leads the Falcons in scoring average with 14.6 points per game.  Monterika Warren is the second largest offensive contributor for the Falcons, providing 10.1 points on average each contest.  Defensively, Destiny Alston and Warren provide a strong defensive presence for Daytona State, averaging just over 2.5 steals per game.

The Falcons will look to expand their 3 game winning streak as they continue Mid-Florida Conference play Wednesday, January 14th against the Saints of Sante Fe College.  Sante Fe is currently 9-8 overall and dropped their first two conferences games to College of Central Florida and Florida State College at Jacksonville.
