Women’s Basketball Gets Colorful for Community Service

Daytona State College’s Women’s Basketball players and coaching staff volunteered for the YMCA’s 5K Color Run held on the Daytona State College Main Campus in Daytona Beach on Saturday September 6th 2014.  These popular Color Runs take place in cities around the nation each year.  The goal of the Daytona State Color Run was to promote health and happiness by bringing communities together. 

Falcon players and staff were placed at various stations throughout the 5k course.  Each group was armed with buckets of colored powder. As the runners passed each station the players greeted them with cheers and doused them with the color powder, anointing their efforts.

Towards the end of the race, the team was asked to assemble at the finish line where each player and coach drenched runners with colored powder as they completed the race. Mica Cyrus, the Color Run Event Director, called the Lady Falcons “one of the highlights” of the race.

The race ended with a “color blast” where all the runners were given powder to toss into the air simultaneously. What a great day to give back to the communities of Volusia and Flagler counties! A check presentation was the final detail of the event. The Color Run raised over one thousand dollars for charities, led by the YMCA of Volusia and Flagler counties. 

The run was a fun filled event and the Lady Falcons truly enjoyed giving back to the community!
