Daytona State College Set to Tip Off Against ASA

March 15, 2016

The Lady Falcons earned an at large bid after a disappointing early departure from the FCSAA Tournament last week.  The at large bid resulted in a 7th place seed for the Falcons in the NJCAA Tournament in Lubbock, TX.

Daytona State’s seeding is a direct result of their impressive regular season play.  The Lady Falcons recorded an impressive 28-2 overall record, and remained undefeated in Mid-Florida Conference play at 12-0.  The 7th seed earned the Falcons a bye on the opening day of play, Monday, March 14th.  The winner of the ASA New York and Cowley County match up would be the Falcons opening game on Tuesday.  ASA New York nudged out Cowley County in an overtime nail bitter, 87-80, setting up Tuesday’s match-up between ASA and Daytona State College.

ASA was 21-2 coming into NJCAA Tournament play.  ASA is a member of the small, two team, Region 15 in New York.  ASA has been impressive from the field all season long, shooting nearly 50% from the field.  Cheridene Green is ASA’s star player.  This standout is averaging 20 points per outing, shooting a remarkable 58% from the field.

The Lady Falcons will need to contain Green tomorrow night as they look to knock off ASA in the second round of play.  The Falcons are hopeful that their Mid-Florida Conference Player of the Year, Brittney Chambers, will have a big night. Chambers will look for offensive contributions and support from Mid-Florida All-Conference teammates Jazlynd Rollins, Stephanie Oramas, and Ragen Dotson.

The Falcons will take the court at 9 pm eastern time at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, TX on the biggest stage of their season.
