Shannon Hickey Jones just happened to be running in the same race as former Falcon Jenny Enslin when they struck up a conversation. It seemed that Jones was thinking about going back to school to finish her degree and start a bachelor's degree. After speaking with coaches and admissions counselors, Jones realized the opportunities before her. A former soccer player and cross country runner from Winter Park High School, Jones is no stranger to the sport.
2022 Season Outlook: Jones comes into the season with good training, experience, and a willingness to train hard. Along with teammate Harleigh Crist, she could find herself near the top in the national race.
Coach Wilson Comments: "Having Shannon join our program this fall is an incredible opportunity for her and for Daytona State. She is able to earn a bachelor's degree and run at the college level. Already an accomplished road racer, if she can transition her 5k road race time to the cross country course, there is no question that she will find herself in the front pack at the NJCAA national meet."

Why did you choose Daytona State College: "Daytona State offered me a great opportunity to continue my education as a collegiate athlete. Being an older athlete, as well as a mother, I’m an untraditional student athlete. Daytona State made it possible for me to have a second chance in running at this level."
