Falcons Bring Home Win

The Daytona State Women's Cross Country squad, ranked 18th in the NJCAA national poll, easily brought home the win against Region 8 teams on Friday night at the Seminole State Invitational at Seminole State College. Placing six runners in the top 10 of the field, the Falcons are rolling into October in good form.   "This was a good race for us to try some different things with our lead runners.  Hannah Offenback had a really solid performance and is getting back into race mode after not running cross country since the fall of 2017."  Wilson said.  The Falcons were led once again by Trina Spinelli, a 40 year old elementary school teacher who has never run cross country prior to joining the Falcons.  Her time of 21:08 was only 9 seconds behind first place.  Offenback placed third in 21:23, followed by Kristine Gray in fifth with a 21:29.  Wilson was excited to see Sara Mott go out a bit more aggressively at the start, and also to see Moriya Patsch come on strong in the third mile.  "We are still trying to come together as a team, but this is the part of the season where you take some risks in terms of pace and how to run each course."  Wilson said.  Finishing out the top seven was Jenny Enslin, 6th for the team and 10th place overall in 22:49 and Kylie Dedeo 13th overall in a time of 23:08.

Next up for the Falcons will be the Disney Cross Country Classic on October 12th at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.
