Falcons Finish Second Overall at Embry Riddle Meet

The Daytona State Falcons women's cross country squad finished second out of eleven teams today at the Embry Riddle Invitational, in a field that included two NCAA Division I teams.  First year runner Trina Spinelli ,a 1998 graduate of Lake Howell HS, and sophomore Kristine Gray led the Falcons, finishing in the top 15. "We were able to sneak past JU to earn that runner up team spot. Kylie Dedeo dug down to pass a JU runner at the end and that right there is a sign of great things to come." Wilson said.  Embry Riddle took the top team spot scoring just 20 points.  The top five runners score in cross country and the lowest team score wins.  The Falcons edged out Jacksonville University by one poinnt, 86 to 87.  The Falcons also finished ahead of four Region 8 teams.  "It was a solid day for us. And I think they all know that they are capable of a lot more.  This course can be unforgiving.  Times are always a little slow, but we are faster as a team than last year and that is very exciting for the program, in only our second year."  Hannah Offenback was DSC's third runner, placing 21st, 22:24; Kylie Dedeo was only 12 seconds behind Offenback and placed 24th.  Sara Mott, DeLand native, finished fifth for the team and 29th overall, and Jenny Enslin, a 1994 Spruce Creek HS graduate, was the sixth Falcon runner to cross the line at 32nd overall with a time of 23:24.  Next up for the Falcons is the Seminole State Invite on Friday, Sep 27th at Seminole SC Oviedo Campus, race time is 5:30pm.
