Avila Earns All-Regions Honors

Bruna Avila has been an integral part of the Falcon Volleyball program during the 2019 season.  This season as a sophomore setter, Avila took over the reigns of the program after serving part-time setting duties as a freshman in 2018.

Avila, a 5'9" setter from Brazil, joined the Daytona State College volleyball program in 2018.  During her 2018 season she split court time with Gardieliz Laureano.  During her debut season with the Falcons in 2018 Avila recorded 489 assists, an average of 4.89 assists per set.  She also added 61 digs and 32 blocks.

This season, Avila would have full-time control over the Falcon's offense.  She amassed 911 assists this season, 77 kills, 232 digs, and 42 blocks on the season.  Avila is currently 8th in the nation in assists per set with 10.24.

"Bruna was a big part of our success this season.  She was able to provide us with an up-tempo offense that worked well with our smaller attackers.  She was also a solid defensive setter," remarked Stegall.  "Bruna was definitely deserving of the All-Region honors.  She worked hard to improve her game in the off season and was committed to being a consistent presence on the court."

Avila is not only an exceptional player but a great student as well.  Avila will graduate in December and will transfer on to begin her commitment to play at USC Upstate this spring.
