Daytona State College Gives Hillsborough First Loss

During the first week of play Daytona State College suffered a three set loss to Hillsborough on the road.  However, last night the Falcons were able to exact revenge on the loss, beating the undefeated Hawks in three straight sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-21).

The Falcons offense was evenly dispersed making it difficult for the Hawks to key in on any one player.  The Falcons were led offensively by sophomore outside hitter, Gabi Soto, and freshmen right side, Derionah Abner, with 10 kills each.  Other significant offensive contributions came from sophomores, Alexis Thompson and Carla Hernandez.  Thompson added nine kills and Hernandez 8 kills on the match.

Thompson and Abner led the Falcons in attack percentage.  Thompson's hitting efficiency was .571 and Abner .529.

Daytona State's offense was directed by Bruna Avila.  Avila recorded 34 assists on the night.  Rodriguez led us in digs with 13.

"The team really stepped up last night and played a complete match.  I was extremely impressed with our ability to pass the ball and control our offense.  Our attack percentage on the night was in direct correlation to our ability to manage the first ball," commented Stegall on the win.

The Falcons recorded their highest match attack percentage on the season last night against the Hawks.  Daytona State College hit an impressive .357 on the night.

The Lady Falcons will be on the road this weekend as they take on Palm Beach State Saturday at 4pm.
