2019 Season Preview

2019 Season Preview

  1. Daytona State College will enter its seventh season for the program this 2019 season under the direction of Laura Stegall.  The Falcons return 5 key players from the 208 roster and have added some exceptional local and international talent to top of the 2019 roster.

With five returners who all saw playing time in 2018, the Falcons will enjoy having sophomore experience on the court this season.  The 2019 sophomores recorded a 20-10 record in 2018 and were ranked 10th in the nation for a majority of the 2018 season.  They finished 3rd in the Mid-Florida Conference after losing to College of Central Florida in a tie breaker at the close of season.

Key players that return from the starting line up from 2018 are sophomore outside attackers Carla Hernandez and Gaby Soto.  Additionally, middle hitter and recent Stetson University commit, Alexis Thompson, returns for the Falcons as a strong offensive threat in the middle.  Sophomore setter, Bruna Avila, will take charge of the Falcons offense.  The Falcons return their sensational libero, Nicole Rodriguez.  Rodriguez led the Falcon's defensively in 2018 with 560 digs on the season.

The Falcons have added some key impact players for 2019.  Notable additions include freshmen right side Derionah Abner.  Abner's athleticism will make her an offensive force, as well as, a strong blocker for the Falcons on the right side.  Transfer right side, Sam Bebber, has already proven that she has a lot to offer offensively for the Falcons.  Freshmen outside hitter, and 2018 Volusia County Player of the Year, Hallie Huth will be an offensive weapon for the Lady Falcons in 2019.  Huth has a heavy swing and offers a big presence on the court.  Transfer middle/outside, Gabi Abreu, brings a strong offensive attack as well.

Other additions to the Falcons that will play valuable roles this 2019 season are Joana Aebi, Milica Pejovic, Kylie Smith and Kaylee Bobo.
