Kurtze and DeStaffino Add to Accolades

Kurtze and DeStaffino Add to Accolades

The accolades continue for Lady Falcon volleyball as two Lady Falcons were honored last week at the Florida State Tournament.  Sophomore Falcon setter, Emily DeStaffino, and teammate freshman outside hitter, Laura Kurtze, were selected to the All-State team.  DeStaffino and Kurtze were two of the fifteen players selected to the All-State Team representing Region VIII.

DeStaffino has led the Falcon's offense the last two seasons as Daytona State's starting setter.  DeStaffino currently ranks 6th in the nation in assists per set with 10.65.  She has accumulated 969 assists on the season and has masterfully controlled the Falcon's offense.  Additionally, DeStaffino has added to the Falcon's offensive output by contributing 68 kills on the season.  DeStaffino signed with Stetson University and will take charge of their offense in 2018 when she dons a Hatter's jersey.

Kurtze has been an electrifying player for the Lady Falcons this season.  Whether you are watching her on the defensive side or offensive side of the game you are sure to be impressed.  Kurtze's ball control and poise in serve receive made her a constant, consistent presence in the Falcon's serve receive rotations.  Additionally, her ability to read, her speed, and agility made her an exciting defender to watch.  She recorded 289 digs on the season, landing her 16th in the nation. Offensively, Kurtze led the state of Florida during the regular season with kills, notching 342 kills on the season.  Her explosive jump and powerful swing made her a force to be reckoned with.

DeStaffino and Kurtze were in good company surrounded by other exceptional volleyball athletes from NJCAA Region VIII.  Click here for a full listing of the 2017 NJCAA Region VIII All-State Team.
