DeStaffino Earns Setter of the Week Conference Honors

Daytona State Sophomore Emily DeStaffino is the NJCAA Region 8 Setter of the Week. Over the Falcons' three matches between Oct. 3 - 7, DeStaffino averaged 12.7 assists and 2.2 digs per set (nine total). Against #16 ranked Polk State, DeStaffino helped the #12 Falcons secure a shut out vistory with 35 assists. DeStaffino then bested her performance with 39 assists against Lake-Sumter and 40 against Florida State College-Jacksonville, adding to her season total of 740 assists, an average of 10.57 per set.

The Falcons are heading into the last four games of their best season to date. With a 19-4 record, 4-2 in conference play, Daytona State currently sits at #3 in NJCAA Region 8 polls despite playing in one of the most competitive conferences in the nation. Of the five teams in the Mid-Florida Conference, three are nationally ranked. But the Falcons have dominated the competition this year with 15 straight set, 3-0 victories.

DSC ill play their last two home games of the regular season this week, during Daytona State's homecoming celebration. The Falcons will take on the Eastern Florida Titans (9-8, 1-4) on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. in a conference match-up that will be broadcast live on WDSC-TV. On Thursday, Oct. 19, Daytona State will face conference leaders Polk State (11-3, 5-1) at 7:00 p.m. in the Lemerand Center Gymnasium.
