Kurtze Named NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Player of the Week

Freshman Laura Kurtze is making her name known among Daytona State's competition in the NJCAA Region 8. Kurtze was named Volleyball Player of the Week by the region on Sept. 26 following a stellar performance across the Falcons' four matches last week. From Sept. 16 - 23, the Falcons went 3-1, including three shutout victories against Lake-Sumter, St. Johns River State and SCF Manatee-Sarasota, led by Kurtze's average 3.9 kills, 3.7 digs, 0.3 service aces and 4.4 points per set (13 total sets). Against three of the Falcons' four opponents Kurtze posted double-digit kills and digs, including 15 kills and 20 digs versus nationally ranked #11 Central Florida. Kurtze also leads the Falcons in total kills (231) and total points scored (263) for the season.

Daytona State is currently ranked #14 in the nation, and climbed as high as #11 earlier in the season. With a 16-3 record heading into the last few weeks of the season, the Falcons are in second place in the Mid-Florida Conference and hope to make a return trip to the FCSAA State Tournament this postseason.
