Lady Falcons Capture Mid-Florida Conference Accolades

The Lady Falcons finished Mid-Florida Conference play with an overall 6-2 record, losing their only conference matches to the Patriots of Central Florida.  A second place finish in Mid-Florida Conference play and an overall 16-9 record lands the Lady Falcons at 11th in the nation in the final NJCAA National Poll.

The Falcons have won their way into the Regional Tournament that will get underway November 4th-6th in Bradenton Florida.  They will open play with the top team from the Panhandle Conference, Pensacola State College.

As Mid-Florida Conference play wrapped up last week, nominations were completed for the Mid-Florida All-Conference Teams.  Daytona State saw great representation on both the First and Second All-Conference teams.  Freshman, middle hitter, Sandra Hovels, found her way onto the Second Team All-Conference list.  Hovels was a big contributor both offensively and defensively for the Lady Falcons appearing in every match this season recording 70 blocks and 112 kills.

Three of the eight slots on the first team were denoted for the Lady Falcons of Daytona State.  Falcon first teamers were sophomore attackers Madison Rogers and Tania Kottke, as well as, freshman setter, Emily DeStaffino

Rogers has recorded 225 kills on the season for the Lady Falcons, second to Kottke who has recorded an additional 266 kills.  Both provide critical offense for the Falcons from both the front and the back row.  Rogers is also a key defender for the Falcons, finishing the regular season with 165 digs.

DeStaffino is the Falcon's court general, leading the Falcon's offense this fall.  DeStaffino has recorded 828 assists on the season, averaging 9.63 assists per set.

The Falcons will open Region Tournament play on Friday at 1pm against the Pirates of Pensacola State College.
