2020 Falcon Student Engagement Award

The women's Soccer Program is happy to recognize sophomore Brooke Boccuzzo as one of the 2019- 2020 Falcon Student Engagement Award Winner. The Falcon Student Engagement award is presented to students who have been engaged in representing Daytona State College's values of community, integrity, excellence, diversity, innovation, and student success.  Engagement includes any voluntary academic activities above and beyond course requirements, involvement in student clubs and organizations, supporting academic programs and services, assisting other students, and community service.

Brooke has been a member of the women's soccer team for the last two years where she played an integral role in the program's sustained success.    Brooke was the only freshman in program history to be voted by her peers and coaching staff to serve as a team captain.  She worked tirelessly to balance her individual athletic performance with the demands of ensuring her teammates were prepared and able to perform.  She worked tirelessly to build players confidence, resolve conflict, and mentor those around her.

When asked about Brooke, Coach Jones stated: "Brooke is a servant leader that is constantly looking for opportunities to make the communities she engages with better.  She led our program with integrity and holds herself as well as her teammates to a level of excellence that ensures their success academically and athletically.  She embodies what we want our students at Daytona State to look like.  She is an active participant in her education as well as the community around her."

During her time at Daytona State, Brooke has found numerous ways to give back to the College.  She was involved in multiple free youth soccer clinics that helped grow the game in the local community as well as promote the College.  She also volunteered her time in on-campus activities such as The Basket Brigade, Beach Cleanups, and the VITA Tax Program put on by the Center for Women and Men.

Brooke will graduate from Daytona State this May with her Associate's Degree.  She will continue her academic and athletic career at Warner University.  Brooke is working toward a bachelor's degree in business administration with a focus on management.  After graduation Brooke wants to serve an organization that looks to add value to the lives of their customers and help those she manages to develop into the best version of themselves.
