Falcons Defeat Jones College

Spartanburg, SC (dscfalcons.com): After opening the 2019 regular season with a 3-0 win against Region 8 opponent Polk State College.  The Falcons traveled to Spartanburg, South Carolina to face two NJCAA opponents in Jones College and Spartanburg Methodist.

The Falcons earned their second win on the year as they defeated Jones College 3 -2 on a hot Saturday afternoon.  Savannah DeCastro scored the opening goal at the 26-minute mark.  She made a quick diagonal run behind the outside back and received a well-timed pass from Tayla Duffy.  The goal was her first of the season and one of two she scored on the day.  Tayla Duffy added another goal to her point total in the 32nd minute with a fantastic left-footed finish from the top of the box.  The goal was her third in two games and makes her the team leader with 10 points in 2 games.

Shortly after halftime Jones capitalized on a defensive error and made the score 2-1.  The Falcons continued to apply pressure and were able to score the third and deciding goal 10 minutes later when Samantha Saez slotted a ball into Savannah Decastro for her 2nd goal of the night.

Jones was well organized throughout the match and was able to put pressure on the Falcons throughout the game.  Their pressure paid off and lead to their 2nd goal on the day.  When asked about the game Coach Jones said, "I was happy to see the challenges that Jones presented to our group today.  Having only played 1 regular-season game against a team many games into the season certainly showed our group some areas for improvement.  I thought they were well organized and well-coached.  They played to their strengths and challenged us.  On our end, we had some very good moments, but need to continue to look to play consistently and manage the game for the full 90 minutes."

The Falcons next play Sunday, September 22nd. They will play weekend hosts Spartanburg Methodist who lost to Jones College 4-2 on Friday.  The Falcons and Spartanburg are both ranked in the top 20 of the NJCAA National polls.
