Daytona Beach, FL (dscfalcons.com): The Daytona State women's soccer team has spent the Fall semester not only competing on the field and in the classroom, but giving back to the community and Daytona State College through various volunteering opportunites. This past weekend, the team was out in full force helping the Volusia Thanksgiving Basket Brigade. This event collects donations of decorated Thanksgiving Baskets, filled with non-perishable food items, to deliver to families in need in Volusia County. The 2018 event shattered their goal of 1500 baskets by over 1,100, collecting and delivering 2,674.

"I believe that I am and the members of our program are very fortunate for the opportunities we have been afforded. It is essential that we express our gratitude by serving other members of our community. I am proud of how well our team represented themselves over the past week and look forward to continuing our acts of service in the future," said Coach Jones of Saturday's basket brigade.

The Basket Brigade was the fourth volunteering event of the Fall semester for the Falcons. Earlier in the Fall, the team travelled up to Ormond Beach Soccer Club to run a free soccer clinic for 5-13 year olds. Each technical station is coached by the members of the women's team and each have different games and topics. The team also volunteered in helping with the 26th Annual Gala benefitting the Daytona State College Foundation. The Daytona State Foundation's provides many scholarship opportunities to DSC students and other critical funding for the college. Daytona State College played host to the NJCAA Men's D1 National Tournament this past week, where the women's soccer team helped as support staff during the event.
