Falcons Beat Eagles 2-1

Daytona Beach, FL (dscfalcons.com): The Falcons' women's soccer team played their second conference game of the season, Saturday, Sept. 22nd against the Polk State Eagles.

"Our team entered the game with Polk State knowing that we were going to have to perform at a high level in order to be successful. Polk had just beaten the #1 team in the country and had obvious talent and momentum," said Head Coach Brittany Jones.

Daytona State was able to get on the board early with a ball from Freshman Tayla Duffy (Rushden, England) between the Eagles' center and outsidebacks to oncoming Tilda Andreasson (Gothenburg, Sweden), finishing the ball near the top of the 18 yard box 11 minutes into the game. Freshman centerback Lauren Woodcock (Sydney, Australia) scored the game winning goal in the 63rd minute off of a set piece outside the box. With less than 10 minutes left in the game, the Eagles were able to get on the board, putting the Falcons under significant pressure. Makenna Gottschalk (Broomfield, CO) kept the Falcons on top with 4 saves in the game.

"I was proud of the way our team found a way to win despite not playing at our full potential.  This group has a great deal of integrity and continues to mature through every challenge we face.  I am excited to see how we perform on Tuesday when we take on Eastern Florida," remarked Jones.

Tomorrow's home match against conference rival Eastern Florida will be broadcasted live on WDSC-TV 15 at 7 pm and live streamed on the Daytona State YouTube channel.
