Daytona Beach, FL (dscfalcons.com): Daytona State's women's soccer team just returned from their first long roadtrip, where they were scheduled to play Albany State University and South Georgia State College on Tuesday Sept. 11th and Wednesday Sept. 12th of this week. Coming off of their first defeat of the season against Monroe College (NY) on September 6th, the Falcons were eager to get back on the field. Unfortunately, after only 30 minutes of play on Tuesday the match ran into some heavy thunder and lightning, forcing the two teams to call the game and record it as a "non-contest." In order for a match's result to count, 70 minutes of play must be completed.

"As a team we've talked over the last several weeks about emotional maturity and managing ourselves when things don't go as planned.  We have seen a number of situations over the last couple weeks between disappointing results, referee decisions, and weather delays.  These moments have served as excellent learning opportunities for our group to determine how we are going to respond to adversity.  After our loss to Monroe, we turned around to play Albany State.   We put in an excellent 30 minutes of  team play to be immediately followed by a 2.5 hour lightning delay.  The frustration of that situation and the resulting noncontact was something we were able to control and respond positively with our result on Sunday," said Coach Jones.

Sunday's result was a great team effort, where 24 players saw minutes and many notching their first career and season goals and assists. Sophomore Kelsey Allison (Clewiston, FL) had her first two goals of the season, Sophomore Gabrielle John (St. Petersberg, FL), Sami Saez (Palm Coast, FL), Julia Soncini (New Symrna Beach, FL), and Cassidee Rentsch (Cape Coral, FL) all notched their first goals of the season. Freshman Tayla Duffy (Rushden, England) also scored two goals in Sunday's match, totalling 8 goals this season.

Daytona's next game will be at the Falcons' home field, Saturday September 15th against Webber International University at 6:00 pm.
