Armstrong and Shores Receive All-American Nods

Daytona Beach, FL (dscfalcons.com): Following the completion of their second season, two of Daytona State's women's soccer team members have received All-American accolades. "I am excited for Kaila and Kristian to have their contributions within our team recognized.  I feel both players are very deserving due to their work rate and ability to perform under pressure," said Coach Brittany Jones. 

Kaila Armstrong, a Sophomore out of Broomfield, Colorado, was named to the All-American Second Team by the United Soccer Coaches (USC) organization; USC is one of the world's largest coaching organizations in the country. Kaila was presented with the award at USC's annual coaching convention in Philadelphia, PA. Armstrong had a standout year for the Falcons, notching 9 goals and 8 assists on the season. "Kaila has really grown into her role within the team this past fall and her ability to score goals as well as offer assists, which really set her apart this year," said Jones. Kaila was also named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 8 First team.

Kristian Shores, a Sophomore out of New Symrna Beach, Florida, was named NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention. Shores conceded only 5 goals in the regular season in 2017 and is twice named NJCAA Region 8 Goalkeeper of the Year and to the NJCAA Region 8 First Team. "Kristian has been incredibly consistent over the last two seasons and kept us in our biggest games," said Jones, including two regular season wins over conference rival Eastern Florida. 

"Anytime players receive individual rewards it reflects positively on our program and the work of the rest of our players.  Both players were two of the best in our conference, but neither player could have reached this level of success without the support of their teammates," said Jones.
