Daytona Beach, FL (dscfalcons.com): The Falcons hosted the semi-final round of the NJCAA Region 8 tournament last night, October 27th. The first game of the night took place at 4:30 between the Broward College Seahawks and the Eastern Florida State Titans. During the regular season, the Titans took both games 3-1 against Broward and last night they improved their record to 3-0 against the Seahawks with a 7-1 victory, knocking them out of the Region 8 tournament.

The Falcons had the second game of the night against Polk State. Daytona State's meetings with Polk State this season were both commanding defeats, 7-0 and 5-0 respectively, tallying 39 shots on goal combined and giving up only 3 shots on goal to the Eagles. The Eagles were able to keep the score line at zero through the first half, limiting the Falcons to only 7 shots. Daytona State was able to ramp up their pressure in the second half with 12 shots and scoring 3 of them.

Centerback Brittany Greene (Soph., Orange City, FL) was the first to score for Daytona to break the deadlock, on a ball passed back from Shanade Hopcroft (Soph., Ayelsbury, England). Greene rotated higher just into the Eagles' defensive half offering Hopcroft relief from oncoming pressure, then struck a driven ball from nearly 45 yards out into the back of the net. Six minutes later Greene came up big again, when she was able to get on the end of a cornerkick from Kaila Armstrong (Soph., Broomfield, CO) and headed it past the outstretched keeper. These are Greene's first two goals of the season.

The final goal of the match came with 10 minutes left, when a shot from Cheyenne Beck (Soph., Panama City, FL) hit the crossbar and Heather Nulty (Soph., Winter Springs, FL) was able to get her head on the rebound to bring the Falcons to a comfortable 3-0 margin. This was Nulty's 12th goal of the season.

The Falcons will again take on the Easter Florida State Titans in a showdown Sunday, Oct. 29th at 6:00pm at the Falcon Stadium for the Region 8 Tournament Championship.
