Daytona Beach, FL (dscfalcons.com)- This past Saturday night, the Falcons went on the road road to Melbourne to play visiting Monroe CC out of New York. The Mustangs played Eastern Florida the previous night to a tough 0-2loss before playing DSC the next day. 

"The past week has been filled with 3 games against quality opponents and we prepared a great deal to deal with the physical and emotional challenges faced, by such a tough schedule.  I felt very confident of our team's ability going into the Monroe game as this team has continually proved to me that they are resilient and competitors.  Monroe was going to be a difficult match up with us due to their style of play and I was excited for the challenge before the team."

The opening 20 minutes of play was heavily controlled by the Falcons, with some quality opportunities on frame, when an uncleared ball outside the 6 yard box would put them back 1-0. The rest of the first half, would see several more opportunities that were collected by the keeper or placed wide.

The mustangs would score their second goal early in the second half off, where the play built up from a free kick near half and attacked down the left side of the field. The remainder of the 2nd half saw 6 yellow cards.  Monroe had 5 yellow and 1 red card while Daytona only saw  1 yellow card. Monroe received a red card near the 60^th minute causing them to play a man down. Of the Falcons numerous opportunities on goal, Megan Warner (Soph., Watford, England) was finally able to convert off of a well placed service by Naomi Gurrola (Soph., Broomfield, CO) in the final 10 minutes of play.  The Falcons continued to push for the equalizing goal creating 6 quality opportunities within the last 10 minutes but were unable to score.

"We had a difficult result in our game against Monroe.  We had some excellent passages of play and were unable to capitalize on the opportunities we created. I have to give credit to Monroe to overcoming some adversity and getting the result.  However, I know that our team could have easily won the game had we been more clinical in front of goal.  This game is a moment our team must learn from and recognize that we our success is a result of our ability to capitalize on opportunities." 

ASA Miami- Last night, October 10th, the Falcons went on the road to play Region 8 opponent, ASA Miami. 

"We wanted to use our ASA game to work on a few key points that were missing in our performance against Monroe.  We spent time at training this week on being more clinical with the opportunities we created.  I was happy to see the team's hard work paid off.  We were able to create chances and goals in a number of different situations.  It is good to see the group be rewarded for their efforts."

Among the many quality performances, Kelsey Allison (Fr., Clewiston, FL), stood out scoring her first collegiate goal off of a penalty kick in the first half and would continue into the second half scoring 4 more. 

The Falcons next travel down to Melbourne to take on Eastern Florida State. Both teams sitting at the top of the table in Region 8 play and ranked 7th and 8th, respectively, in the National NJCAA poll. Kickoff is October 16th at 6 pm and will be live streamed on efsctitans.com.
