Falcons Improve to 4-0 on the Season after 2nd Weekend of Competition
Daytona Beach, FL (dscfalcons.com): After a successful opening weekend to the season, the Falcons (2-0) traveled to Melbourne to take on their next two opponents. The Falcons' first match featured two teams ranked nationally within the NJCAA; the 11th ranked Falcons and 12th ranked Johnson County Community College. The game was played in very difficult conditions with the heat index surpassing 108 degrees at the time of kick off.
The match was evenly matched for the first half hour of the game with Johnson County having their best opportunity early in the match, forcing Kristian Shores (New Symrna Beach, FL) to make the save. The dead lock was not broken until the 40th minute when Kaila Armstrong (Broomfield, CO) received a reverse pass from Shanade Hopcroft (Ayelsbury, England) within the 18-yard box. The goal was one of three Kaila would score over the course of the weekend.
The Falcons excited halftime with a 1-0 lead and quickly extended it to two as Alexis Vazquez (Orlando, FL) scored her 2nd goal of the season off a corner kick in the 46th minute. The Falcons controlled much of the 2nd half creating 13 opportunities in that period and scoring two more goals. Kaila Armstrong scored her 2nd of the game and Michaella Krebser (Bradenton, FL) picked up her 4th goal of the season. The Falcons held Johnson County to only 2 shots in the game, continuing their shutout streak on the season with a final score of 4-0.
Sunday, September 3rd the Falcons returned to the Titan Complex to take on Southwestern Illinois College. Once again, the weather conditions were stifling with 100% humidity and a heat index above 100. The Falcons were able to capitalize early as Megan Warner (Watford, England) scored her 3rd goal of the season within the first two minutes of the game, receiving a ball from Armstrong near the 18 yard box. Michaella Krebser scored her 5th goal of the year when she scored from the penalty mark in the 15th minute.
The Falcons were dominate in terms of possession and creating opportunities outshooting their opponents 30 to 4 over the course of the game. Armstrong and Heather Nulty would also add to the goal tally. Heather Nulty (Winter Springs, FL) leads the Falcons with 6 goals on the season and in total points with 14.
"Overall, I am very pleased with the way our team performed this weekend. These two games were very difficult to play due to external factors and our team needed to push through some adverse conditions. We were able to see some very good passages of play throughout both games and the level of play remained high regardless of the players on the field. I look forward to continuing our team's development as we prepare for our next matches. "
The Falcons' next contest will be Monday, September 11th at the Falcon Soccer complex, where they will take on Region 8 rival, Eastern Florida State College at 7:00 pm.
