Falcons Open Spring Season On A High Note

Daytona Beach, FL (dscfalcons.com)- The Falcons were back in action this past weekend, Saturday February 25th, in the team's first matchup since their inaugural fall season, playing abbreviated games against both the University of Tampa and Stetson University.

"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity presented by Manoj and the Stetson program to play two quality opponents for our spring opener. I wanted to have a spring schedule that would challenge us in order to better prepare us for our fall season.  We knew both Stetson and Tampa would show us a different level of athleticism and sophistication, so I was happy that both games were competitive. Both Stetson and Tampa are very successful programs and I thought our team showed a great deal of character and maturity today," said Coach Jones on the weekend.

In their first game, the Falcons were able to finish with a 0-0 tie against Tampa, a Sunshine State Conference Division II program. While both teams had several chances on goal, each were able to keep the clean sheet.

"Overall, it was obvious that our group had not been in a full sided game in over 3 months as the timing of our movements and the crispness of play was not at the level of the fall. However, I thought there were some very good passages of play where we were really able to combine between lines and create some dangerous moments," said Jones.

In the final game of the night, Daytona State fell 0-1, as Stetson clinched the victory with a late goal in the second half.

"During the Stetson game there were some obvious signs of fatigue later in the match and at the next level, teams take advantage of the opportunities they are given.  We made a string of mistakes that lead to the goal, but it is a learning moment and one we will improve upon.  Most importantly I was proud of the way the girls represented our program and themselves. I look forward to seeing how we develop over the next two months as we continue to play high level competition."

The Falcons' will continue their Spring game schedule on the road March 25th at 1 pm in Valdosta, GA against Division II Valdosta State University.
