Falcons Open Region Play with a Win

Falcons Open Region Play with a Win

For their first Region 8 game of the year the Falcons traveled to Pembroke Pines, FL to take on the Broward College Seahawks.  The Seahawks entered the game having faced in Region opponents Polk State and Eastern Florida State College.  They fell 1-0 to Eastern Florida on a very late goal and lost in overtime to Polk State.  As a result both teams were looking to capture their first Region win on Wednesday night.

The Falcons were coming off a 6-0 win over Andrew College and quickly picked up where they left off as the first goal of the game came in the 2nd minute of play.  Heather Nulty was able to create space 25 yards from goal to allow her to slot the ball behind the Seahawk defense to Michaella Krebser who calmly slotted the ball by the Broward goalkeeper.

The remainder of the first half was a stalemate as each team looked to gain dominance and create opportunities.  The Seahawks were able to create two legitimate chances that were both cleaned up by Brittany Greene on a last ditch tackle. The Falcons alleviated some of the pressure they were facing when Michaella Krebser finished her 2nd goal of the night at the 44th minute. The two goals bring Krebser's total goal tally to 5 on the season with a team leading 2 game winning goals.

However, the night was a total team effort as the Falcons were able to preserve a clean sheet for Kristian Shores as well as deny any goal scoring opportunities in the 2nd half.  On the season the Falcons have only allowed one goal in 6 games.

They will face a real test this Sunday as they host Darton State College.  Darton State has consistently been one of the top teams in the country and currently sit at 4-0-0 this season, winning each of their games by at least 5 goals. Darton State travels this weekend to take on the Falcons' Region foe, Eastern Florida State, on Friday before the match up in Daytona Beach.

"As a team we have talked about this week being a real test for our program.  We not only had to travel for our first region game but now have to turn around and host one of the perennial powers within the NJCAA.  This week is a welcome test of our team's character and I am excited to see how we perform" stated coach Jones.

The Falcons will host Darton State on Sunday, October 25th, 2016.  The game will kick off at 4pmand be played at the Embry Riddle Turf Facility.
