Falcons Soar Over Opening Weekend

Daytona Beach, FL – (DSCFalcons.com)- The Daytona State women's soccer team opened up their regular season play this past weekend on the road in Cuthbert, GA taking on Georgia Military Academy and the host school, Andrew College.

"I was proud of the way the girls handled themselves this weekend.  We speak a great deal about setting a standard for our program and holding true to our values. The way our team performed spoke volumes to the amount of work they have put in over the last 4 weeks to prepare for our season opener," said coach Jones.

In the team's 12-0 victory against Georgia Military Academy, Michaella Krebser (Bradenton, FL) had the game winner, finding the back of the net 20 minutes into the first half and again just minutes later, both down the left side of the field. "Individually Michaella was the player of the game vs. Georgia Military.  She had the honor of scoring the first goal in program history and was very dangerous throughout the game," said Jones.

Cheyenne Beck (Panama City, FL) also had an outstanding performance on the weekend, tallying 5 goals and an assist, recording the first hat-trick of the program against Georgia Military Academy. With the first two games in the books, Daytona State has put itself on the map, ranking 5th in the nation in goals scored (17).

"I have to say we were able to put in a total team performance this weekend and only conceded one goal in the 180 minutes. We set a strong foundation to start the season and now we need to continue to improve," said Jones.

The Falcons are on the road again in central Georgia for their next contest against Gordon State College, out of Barnesville, GA. "In our game against Gordon I am hoping to see our team mature and be able to dictate play for an entire 90 minute period.  During our first weekend of games we were very inconsistent when it came to dictating the tempo of the game. We have spent the week preparing and I believe we will see a much improved side emotionally and mentally from our display last week," said coach Jones.

The Falcons will see one more game on the road against Webber International September 14th before their home opener against Andrew College at 4pm Saturday, September 17th
