LADY FALCONS FINISH 3RD AT JU AMELIA ISLAND COLLEGIATE JIWON JEON AND GRACE ST-GERMAIN FINISH 2ND AND 3RD INDIVIDUALLY

February 21, 2017:  The Daytona State College Women's Golf Team continued their solid play in their 2nd event of the spring season at the JU Amelia Island Collegiate.  The Lady Falcons posted rounds of 302-287-288 (877) to finish 4 shots behind tournament winner Mercer University who shot rounds of 297-286-290 (873) and 1 shot behind 2nd place Campbell University who posted scores of 292-287-290 (876).   "This was a very exciting finish, as it came down to the last couple of holes for the team and individual title," said Coach Laura Brown.  It was really fun to watch and I knew we had a chance when Grace St-Germain and Kaye Kwon both eagled the 15th hole and we were within 2 shots of the lead. We came up a few shots short of the title, but I am very happy for the team and was impressed with the way they played especially in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. To play the final 36 holes at 1 under as a team is very solid and this was truly a team effort."

Freshman Jiwon Jeon led the Falcons with a second place finish with scores of 71-69-71 (211) and Grace St-Germain posted scores of 73-73-68 (214) to finish in third place individually.  Jeon finished just 1 stroke behind tournament winner Annelie Sjoholm from Campbell University who posted scores of 70-71-69.  "Jiwon and Grace played great and I am very proud of both of their efforts, Coach Brown stated.  Jiwon struck the ball really well and just came up 1 shot short of a victory.  The individual title actually came down to the final hole and it was very exciting. Grace had a fantastic final round of 68 to move her from 7th place to 3rd place individually.  Grace's 68 was her lowest round of the year and she played fantastic."  Other finishers for the Falcons include Kaye Kwon (81-71-75), Kendall Johnson (77-80-74) and Katie Veale with scores of 82-74-81.

The Lady Falcons return to action March 5-6 at the UNF Collegiate hosted by University of North Florida at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club in Jacksonville, FL.
