Six Daytona State Women's Basketball players will be moving on to NCAA institutions for the 2020-21 season.

Amidst the spring closures due to coronavirus response, each of the sophomores for the Daytona State Women's Basketball all graduated and signed National Letters of Intent to play at various NCAA schools. "All of these young people have grown as student-athletes during their time here at Daytona State. Their resolve to improve their lives is shown through their sacrifices, effort and dedication. I know they will all go on an impact their new schools," Coach Washington said about the sophomores.

Kiya Fulton will be headed to Salisbury, NC to join the Blue Bears of Livingstone College. Fulton is expected to see major minutes at a variety of positions under second year head coach, Chiante Wester. Coach Washington believes that Kiya will "make an immediate impact for Livingstone's perimeter. She is a great defender and can play and defend multiple positions."

Carrie Lee signed with Morgan State College in May. Morgan State is located in Baltimore, Md and finished their season third in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Coach Ed Davis, 2020 MEAC Coach of the Year, is excited about Carrie Lee's versatility and size. Coach Washington says "Carrie's choice to go to Morgan State is a great one. She will have the opportunity to flourish in many roles and will be a great fit for the style Coach Davis likes to play." This season, Lee was named to the Mid-Florida Conference Second Team and selected as the Daytona State Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year.

Tamara Peterson will also be headed to the east coast to attend Chowan University. Peterson was named the Daytona State Women's Basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year and was a recipient of the Falcon Student Engagement Award. She has maintained over a 3.0 grade point average during her two years at Daytona State College. "Tamara will continue to improve and grow her game, as she will be coached by one of the best post players and post coaches I've seen," said Coach Washington.

Transfer Cherelle Washington signed with North Carolina Central University and will make a major impact for them offensively, after spending a year with the Daytona State Falcons. "Cherelle is a dynamic offensive player that can score at all levels," Coach Washington said about Cherelle's abilities. NC Central competes in the MEAC conference, so Cherelle Washington and Carrie Lee will have the opportunity to compete against each other. For the 2019-20 season, Washington was named to the Region VIII All State Team, Mid-Florida Conference First Team and was selected as Offensive Player of the Year for the Daytona State Women's Basketball Program.

Paris Williams will be attending Utah State University, where the Aggies compete in the Mountain West Conference. Paris has left a remarkable trail of success during her time at Daytona State College. A 2020 Daytona State Hall of Fame Inductee, Williams was also named to the Region VIII All State Team, Mid-Florida Conference First Team, as well as selected to compete in the NJCAA JUCO Top 40. Washington says "Paris has grown tremendously as a leader and basketball player. during her two seasons here. She wants to compete at the highest levels and will have a great impact at Utah State." Williams was twice named Co-Outstanding Player of the Year, while at Daytona State.

In addition to the five sophomores, freshman Sarah Placide also has signed to play at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Va. Virginia Union finished the season 23-4, and ranked #8 nationally. Coach Washington said "Sarah has been a great example of how focus and priorities can propel student-athletes in the right direction." Placide finished the spring semester with a 3.80 grade point average, landing her on the President's List. Placide saw action in 29 games this season, averaging 4 points and 4.5 rebounds during Mid-Florida Conference play, where she also shot 64% from the field.
