Daytona State Tops Central Florida to Clinch Mid-Florida Conference

The Daytona State Falcons earned the Mid-Florida Conference Title in dominating fashion, topping the Patriots of Central Florida 77-53. The Falcons came out with a strong defensive mindset, as they held Central Florida to just 10 1st quarter points and seven 2nd quarter points. Daytona State held a 40-17 lead at the break. The Falcons ended the game with five players in double figures. Carmella Walker led the way with 18 points and also contributed 9 rebounds. Joining her in double figures were Destiny Arvinger with 12, Chrisana Scott and Jayla Atmore, both with 11, and off the bench Shauntavia Green with 10. Also getting into the scoring column were Aleah Robinson, with 7, Melissa Sam with 6 and Tiara King with 2. The Falcons were led on the boards by Melissa Sam with 10.

Defensively, the Falcons limited Central Florida to 28.4% from the field. Central Florida attempted a season high 27 3pointers on the night, while connecting on 7. The Patriots shot 8-20 from the free throw line. CFC was led in scoring by Marcella Lamark dos Santos with 11 points.

The win gave Daytona the 2-1 head-to-head edge over Central Florida in the Mid Florida Conference Standings, placing them in sole possession of 1st place, with a 6-2 conference record. Central Florida fell to 8-18 on the season and 5-3 in Mid Florida Conference play.  The Falcons final regular season game will be Saturday, Feb. 24 at Florida State College at Jacksonville. Tipoff is at 2pm.
