Daytona State suffers Opening Day loss at Tallahassee

Tallahassee forced a total of 36 turnovers en route to handing the Daytona State Lady Falcons an 84-62 loss on Tuesday night in Tallahassee. Daytona State's Ebony Hargrove made the first bucket of the game, giving the Falcons their only lead at 2-0. Tallahassee would answer with a three-point field goal from Lawriell Wilson and never looked back from there. Daytona State kept the game close early on, ending the first quarter down 16-25. The second quarter was a defensive battle with both teams forcing turnovers frequently. The Tallahassee defense stifled the Daytona State offensive attack, sending them into the halftime break with 18 turnovers. Tallahassee led 42-26 at the half.

The Lady Falcons would go down by 24 early in the third quarter, but went on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to just 13 with 4:12 left in the quarter. Tallahassee would answer with back to back three-pointers by Jas Hill and Janessa Murphy. Daytona State would not get any closer for the remainder of the game.

Daytona State's interior presence showed with sophomores, Ka'Neeshia Brown and Arielle Harvey both having productive games for the Lady Falcons. Brown finished with 17 points and 19 rebounds on 6-15 shooting. Harvey finished as the game's leading scorer with 23 points on 4-9 shooting. Harvey thrived at the free throw line going 14-15.

The Lady Falcons look to bounce back on Saturday, November 5 at their home opener versus ASA Miami. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
