Daytona State Wins MFC & FCSAA Honors

The Women's Basketball team has enjoyed unprecedented success this season with their 27-1 finish overall and 12-0 Mid-Florida Conference record.  This exceptional record is a result of talented players coming together to achieve united success.

Daytona State has been celebrating the overall success of the program, but this week they have the opportunity to honor the individual players that have been recognized by the Mid-Florida Conference coaches as exceptional.

Lady Falcons, Brittney Chambers, Jazlynd Rollins, and Stephania Oramas, have all earned the honor of being named to the Mid-Florida Conference 1st Team.  Each are key offensive contributors in the Falcon program that averages 85 points per game.

Rollins, a 5'6" sophomore guard for the Falcons, averages 15 points per contest.  She is an athletic guard that can create shots off the dribble, but is equally impressive from the arc hitting 36% of the 3 point shots she puts up.  Equally impressive, Rollins averages 3.2 assists per game and 2.7 steals on each outing. Rollins is definitely on her opponent's radar when they match up with Daytona State College.

Oramas, is also a small guard for the Lady Falcons.  She averages 14.6 points per game and contributes in other key areas for the Falcons, as well.  In addition to her offense output, Oramas averages 3.2 assists per game and 2.7 steals on the defensive end. Her speed and court sense make her a difficult player to contain.

The final Falcon member on the 1st Team Mid-Florida Conference is Chambers.  In addition to her honor on the All-Conference Team, Chambers captured the coveted honor of Mid-Florida Conference Player of the Year.  The conference coaches were unanimous in their decision to honor Chambers for her work this season in conference play.  Chambers averaged just over 17 points per contest, leading the Falcons on the offensive end of the court.  Additionally, she adds to 2 Assists and nearly 3 steals each game. Her athleticism and ability to create shots maker her a leading threat for the Falcon's opponents.  Stetson University signed this talent last fall during the early signing period.

Both Rollins and Chambers were also awarded top honors for the FCSAA.  Both were named to the FCSAA All-State team.  Rollins and Chambers contributions on the court for the Falcons have led the team's way this season.

Two Lady Falcons were honored for their contributions to Daytona State College Basketball on the 2nd Team for the Mid-Florida Conference.  Sophomores, Destiny Woodard and Ragen Dotson, provide valuable offense and defensive contributions that have been key to the program's success.  Woodard, a point guard for the Falcons, leads the team in assists per game with 4.   Dotson is a consistent shooter for the Falcons from the field.  She has deep range along with the ability to take the ball to the hole. Dotson and Woodard both contribute 7 points per game for Daytona State.

The final two players recognized by the conference for their contributions for the 2015-2016 season were Shay Jones and Micah Garvin.  Both ladies have played the role of the starter and 6th man this season, contributing 7 point each game.  Garvin and Jones are key rebounders for the Falcons, each leading the way for the Falcons on the boards.

The Falcons honored by the conference will play pivotal roles in the team's success going into post season.  The Falcons will open up next Thursday in Ocala at the Florida State Tournament at 8 pm.
