Falcons Split with Eastern Florida State

Daytona Beach, FL

Daytona State softball split with Eastern Florida State on Tuesday, losing game one 7-5 and bouncing back to earn a 2-0 victory in game two

Game One

The Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first after Adrianna Onessimo drew a two-out walk and Jael Wilde followed with a triple.  ESFC would cash in on a wild pitch in the second to tie the game at one apiece.  In the third, DSC would bring home four runs highlighted by an RBI double from Jaelyn Lockhart, a two-run single from Rylee Konowalchuk, and a two-run single from Mattie Linhart.  However, the 5-1 lead would be spoiled in the fifth by allowing two walks, committing two errors, and a botched run down by the Falcons.  Eastern Florida took a 7-5 lead and didn't look back.  Linhart was 3-3 for Daytona State in the game.  Emma Ream took the loss in relief despite only allowing one hit in 3 innings of work while striking out four.

Game Two

Mariah Rivera picked up her second straight win and second straight shut out in the nightcap.  Going the distance in the circle, Rivera struck out seven Titan batters, none bigger than the final batter of the game with the tying runner on base.  Daytona grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second with Linhart leading off with a double, Brianna Weimer getting a sac bunt down to move Linhart to third, and Kiera Mainolfi drove her in on a Fielder's Choice.  In the fourth, Jael Wilde hit her second homerun of the season to extend the lead to 2-0.  That was all Rivera needed in the win for the Falcons.

Rivera has now gone 16 straight innings scoreless for DSC.

Daytona State will be back in action at home Thursday and Saturday.
