Falcons Sweep South Georgia State

The Falcons softball team improved to 4-2 on Saturday with a sweep of South Georgia State College, 6-1 and 8-0.

Game One

Madison Mitzel picked up her third win in the circle to improve to 3-0 on the season with a complete game effort.  She allowed one unearned run through seven innings of work, scattering six hits.  DSC claimed a 3-1 lead in the third inning and never looked back.  Kadrianna Grinstead singled home pinch-runner, Leighton Strickland.  Then Jael Wilde followed with a two run double to score Mattie Linhart and Grinstead.  The Falcons extended their lead in the fifth with Amayia Hernandez doubling with two outs in the inning and Wilde plating Hernandez with her second double of the game.  Cristina Penney then drew a walk and Brianna Weimer hammered a double down the left field line to score both Wilde and Penney, pushing the lead 6-1.  Jaelyn Lockhart also added two hits in the contest. 

Game Two

Mariah Rivera picked up her first win of the season, throwing a complete game shut-out.  Rivera also scattered six hits in the win.  The Falcons offense collected six extra base hits including three triples in the game.  DSC got off to a 1-0 lead in first inning with a triple from Grinstead and a sacrifice fly from Hernandez.  Extending their lead in the third, Kiley Lucas drew a walk, Hernandez doubled her home after Lucas stole second, Wilde then doubled home Hernandez and Weimer then singled in Wilde to put the home team up 4-0.  In the fourth, Daytona State plated two more runs, after singles from Linhart and Lucas, Grinstead brought in a run with a sacrifice fly to center and Wilde again doubled home another Falcon.  The game came to a close in the sixth inning with DSC able to push home two more to complete the 8-run rule.  Lucas led off the inning with a triple, Grinstead drew a walk, and Leighton Strickland had an infield single to load the bases.  A sacrifice fly to center field from Wilde plated Lucas and a double from Lockhart ended the game by scoring Grinstead. 

  

Daytona State will be back in action at home this week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
