Falcons Finish Strong
The 2018-2019 season for the Men's Soccer Team at Daytona State College turned out to be another successful one. After a 12-3-3 finish and ending the season ranked 14th in the country for the NJCAA, the Falcons finished out the 2018-2019 academic year with a cumulative 3.11 GPA in the classroom.
"Since the birth of this program, we have set goals to achieve on the field and in the classroom," says head coach Bart Sasnett. "This year we set out to beat our GPA from last year, and we accomplished that goal. We will continue to raise the bar for our athletes and push them to their greatest potential."
Coach Sasnett and Assistant Coach Travis Rovillo devised a plan for their athletes for their studies and it seems to be working. This is the second year in a row where the Men's Soccer Team has achieved a 3.0 or higher. It is also noted that 21 out of 30 of Coach Sasnett's players achieved a 3.0 or higher in the classroom.
"Our college has numerous amounts of resources that our players utilize every day," says Sasnett. "We are lucky to be at a school where everyone is involved to ensure the academic success of the athletes.
Daytona State has a great reputation for academics and athletics and we believe we are on a path that is advancing our team in both areas.
Along with the team achieving great success on the field as well as in the classroom, Five sophomores will be graduating from Daytona State and continuing their academic and playing careers at the 4-year university level. One freshman will be moving on as well.
"The main goal of our program is education and graduating our guys onto the next level," says Sasnett. "We are in the business of shaping these young men to become a positive and impactful citizen of their Daytona community. We know that they will take what they've learned here and carry it onto wherever their life takes them."
