Five Falcons Earn Region 8 Honors

Following their loss in the Region 8 semi-final 1-2 against rival Eastern Florida State College, five Falcons received All-Region awards recognizing their talents on the field. The Falcons finished their season with a record of 12-3-3.

"Even though we may not have finished where we wanted to, I still believe that we had the most talented team in the Region," said head coach Bart Sasnett. "It's hard having such a talented team and not seeing them achieve what they deserved. We fell short of our goal but it is always a good thing to see our guys recognized as some of the top players in the conference. I am proud of the way that they performed throughout the season and am glad to see them achieve the accolades that they deserve."

Another great honor that the Falcons received was Player of the Year for Region 8. The one player that definitely stood out for the Falcons was none other than sophomore Creggton Charlton. After voting from the Region 8 coaches, it was a unanimous decision that Charlton deserved the award for Region 8 Player of the Year.

"I am extremely pleased to see that Creggton was award Region 8 Player of the year," said Sasnett. "He was a threat to every team this season, whether it was in the region or not. To be defended the way he was all year long by teams and still finding ways to score goals is something that you cannot coach. We are going to miss him greatly when he graduates."

Earning Region 8 First Team was sophomore forward Creggton Charlton (Jamaica), sophomore midfielder Shevon Stewart (Jamaica), and freshman midfielder Shandel Senior (Jamaica). Charlton led Region 8 in goals with a Daytona State record of 16 and led in points with 38. He also finished out the season in 3rd for assists with 6. Stewart finished out the season with 5 goals and tied for 3rd in assists with 6. Senior played multiple positions for the Falcons and was noticed by all coaches as an "all-around" impact player wherever he was.

Earning Region 8 Second Team was sophomore defender Giovanny Abreu (Jacksonville, Fl) and sophomore midfielder Dakotah Casale (Palm Coast, Fl). Abreu was a lethal force in the defending third for the Falcons all year long. He was a player with great 1v1 defending ability and a tremendous amount of speed. Casale, a local standout for the Falcons, led Region 8 in assists with 7 and was tied for 3rd in goals with 6 and points with 19. Casale was also a co-captain for the Falcons.

Though the Falcons season is over, they will be hosting the Men's NJCAA Division 1 National Tournament next week at the Daytona State Soccer Complex.
