Falcons Fight For Another Conference Win

After defeating Florida Southern College JV team on the 27th 4-3, the Falcons turned around and defeated Region 8 foe ASA College out of Miami with a score of 2-1. This puts the Falcons at a regular season record of 10-1-1 and a conference record of 2-1.

Recap:

The ASA Silver Storm traveled to the Daytona State Soccer Complex to face the Daytona State College Falcons on Saturday night.

In a tough fought match by both opponents, the Falcons came out victorious over the Silver Storm by scoring in the final 3 minutes of the match to give the Falcons the 2-1 victory.

The Silver Storm got on the board in the 7th minute of the match with a capitalized 1v1 opportunity by Makenson Cadet. The Falcons then returned the favor in the 18th minute of the match when sophomore Creggton Charlton beamed a free kick from outside of the 18-yard box right passed the Silver Storm keeper, making the score now 1-1.

"It was a perfectly executed free kick," said head coach Bart Sasnett.

The Falcons and the Silver Storm continued to fight out the match, with both teams having chances at goal. With time winding down and the thought of potential overtime, the Falcons began to pick up the pace. With 3 minutes left in the match, the Falcons were awarded a corner kick. Sophomore and team co-captain Dakotah Casale played a perfect ball across the 6-yard box to find the head of freshman Sergio Molina who netted the ball right passed the keeper putting the score now at 2-1 with less than 3 minutes remaining.

The Silver Storm had one final chance in the last minute of the game when a forward broke free on a 1v1 opportunity with the Falcons keeper Carlos Melendez. Only this time Melendez came up with a huge save and kept the score at 2-1, giving the Falcons the victory over the Silver Storm.

"Carlos has come up with a lot of really big saves this year," says Sasnett. "He has kept us in the game many times, and that save was just another showing of it."

"I have to give credit to Juan Carlos and his team," said head coach Bart Sasnett when asked after the match. "JC is an expert tactician and his team is in the fight for post season in Region 8. I expect another great matchup when we travel down to Miami to play them at their house."

The Falcons, now 2-1 in Region 8 and 10-1-1 on the season, will have the week to prepare for the team that has given them their only loss this season, Broward College. Only this time, the Broward College Seahawks will be traveling to the Daytona State Soccer Complex. The Falcons will have another chance at the Seahawks on Friday the 5th at 6:00 PM.
