Falcons In The Community

March 22nd

Giving back is something all Daytona State Athletes strive to do and being a servant of service in the community is one of the core values in the Men's Soccer program here at Daytona State.

"Both of these things instill good character into our guys," says Assistant Coach Travis Rovillo, who was thrilled by the spirit of the Men's Soccer team and how they came together to help the community. "Seeing the guys rally together and get excited to help people was something that you can't coach."

The annual Spring Fair and Food Festival was held this past weekend in Port Orange and the Daytona State College Men's Soccer team wanted to make sure they were a part of it. The event needed volunteers on Carload Night, so Head Coach Bart Sasnett sent his boys out for the task.

"We want to get out into the community more," says Falcon soccer player Miguel De Leon. "It's good to get out and support the people who are supporting us during our season. It was fun to be out there with my teammates and having people recognize who we are. It makes me proud to be a part of this program and community."

The festivities included carnival rides, an abundance of food trucks, free live entertainment, kid's activities and more.

The boys were busy all night directing cars into parking lots, selling Carload tickets, and helping people after the event find their vehicles.

"We plan to make this a yearly event for us. The Port Orange Community Trust is a fantastic organization to volunteer with," says Head Coach Bart Sasnett.

To round out the 2017 season, the Falcons ended the Fall semester with a 2.9 overall GPA in the classroom and finished ranked 16th in the country for NJCAA.

The Falcons have played 2 games so far this spring, facing their across-the-street rival Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of North Florida. The Falcons will travel to Jacksonville tonight to face Jacksonville University at 7:00 PM. The Falcons will end their spring season on April 14th when they travel to St. Augustine to face off against Flagler College and Florida Southern College.
