The Men's Soccer team finished its regular season play last Saturday against ASA College (Miami), defeating the Silver Storm 3-0 and securing the Number 2 seed in the Region 8 Tournament while also sharing the Regular Season Title with Eastern Florida State College for the second year in a row.

Before Saturdays match against ASA, the Falcons had to get past Broward College last Wednesday, which was not an easy task. Daytona State was down 2-1 going into halftime, and shortly after the break, the Seahawks made the score 3-1.

"We just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net," says head coach Bart Sasnett. "Things didn't seem to click, so we made a change and it paid off."

The change was freshman Miguel DeLeon of Deltona, Fl.

"We gave Miguel the freedom he needed, and he did exactly what we knew he was capable of doing, and that's scoring goals," says Sasnett.

DeLeon got the Falcons back into the match at 3-2. Right before the end of the 2nd half, freshman Almir Kurtanovic of Jacksonville, Fl tied the game up for the Falcons and sent it into overtime. Not long into the first OT period, Miguel DeLeon struck again and won the game for the Falcons, giving them the win 4-3 over Broward College.

Once getting the win over Broward College, the Falcons had to face rival ASA College (Miami) at home on that Saturday. Looking to clinch the #2 seed in the Region, the Falcons came out with something to prove.

"We had a plan and executed it," says Sasnett. "I am very proud of their performance in this match."

Miguel DeLeon once again came out firing on all cylinders, putting the first goal in for the Falcons and sending them into halftime 1-0 over the Silver Storm. Right into the second half, Sophomore Joe O'Sullivan got himself back onto the board rocketing a shot past the ASA keeper, making the score 2-0.

In the 74th minute of the match, freshman Creggton Charlton made the score 3-0 with a combination play between himself and sophomore Donovan Segree, moving their way between the ASA defense and right into the back of the goal.

The Daytona State College Men's Soccer team finished its regular season with a record of 13-2 (5-1 in conference), and for the second year in a row sharing the title of FCSAA Region 8 Co-Champions with Eastern Florida State College. The Falcons now move into the postseason, facing ASA College (Miami) on Wednesday in the Region 8 Semifinal.

The FCSAA Semifinal will be on Wednesday, October 25th at 6:00 PM at the Daytona State Soccer Stadium.
